Product Styles
The audiology staff at Olympic Hearing Center offer leading-edge, advanced, digital technology. Our practice can fit an instrument for any need, size, or lifestyle requirement. Here are the positives and negatives of each style and size;
(C.R.T.) - Canal Receiver Technology The smallest wireless external received hearing aid in the world!! The completely redesigned external receiver is now available in two power levels - xS and xP, in order to further expand the fitting range. New features include SoundFlow, WhistleBlock, NoiseBlock and wireless connectivity in a CRT device.
(B.T.E.) Behind-The-Ear size and style size and style benefits are: reasonably priced, long life-span due to being "out of the ear canal" (no problems related to humidity or temperature), greater durability, widest range of power and features, does not require regular cleaning, sounds are most natural, feedback is not an issue with this size style, and they require no special dexterity for insertion and removal. Drawbacks are: two-part system (ear mold connected to hearing aid unit), greater visibility for men with short hair-styles. Mini BTE is a smaller sized Behind-The-Ear with the same benefits and drawbacks.
(I.T.E.) In-The-Ear size and style benefits are: lower cost, easy to operate and easy to insert. The ITE drawbacks are: highly visible in the ear and require regular cleaning from wax. Also wind noise is more noticeable and sounds are not very "natural". Whistling and feedback are also a common complaint with this style type. Half Shell is a smaller size In-The-Ear hearing aid with the same benefits and drawbacks.
(I.T.C.) In-The-Canal size and style benefits are; low visibility in the ear, deeper fitting enhances power requirements, easy to insert, and easy operation. Also the ITC sounds seem more "natural" than the I.T.E. size and feedback is normally not an issue with this style type. Drawbacks are: usually more expensive than the I.T.E. size, requires regular cleaning from wax, and requires good finger dexterity.
(C.I.C.) Completely-In-Canal size and style aids are the smallest hearing aids available. Their benefits are: deepest fitting possible makes the aid virtually "invisible" in the ear and beneficial power requirements because the CIC fit so close to the ear-drum. This style picks up the least amount of wind noise and sound is very "natural" because there is nothing in the "bowl" of the outer ear. The CIC are almost completely automatic in function. Drawbacks are: most expensive of all hearing aid sizes and need for regular frequent routine cleaning from wax. Also inner-ear canal humidity and temperatures can shorten the life of the aid and excellent finger dexterity is required for insertion and removal.
The Post-auricular-canal (PAC) instrument is a new hearing aid design which physically separates the processor from the receiver and speaker. This design offers comfort and acoustic options as the tiny processor is placed behind the ear and the receiver/speaker is placed deep in the ear canal.
